Metso to deliver biomass boiler to USA
Metso will supply a biomass boiler to the Nacogdoches Generating
Facility in Sacul, Texas, USA. The installation features a boiler and a
distributed control system. The order will be included in the Energy
and Environmental Technology’s Q4 orders received. The commercial
operation of the plant is scheduled for 2012. The value of the order
will not be disclosed.
The biomass boiler plant will utilize bubbling fluidized bed (BFB)
technology and will use waste wood from logging and mill activity as
well as urban wood waste from clearing, tree trimming and pallets as
the main fuel. The plant will produce approximately 100 MW of renewable
electric power. Once operational, this boiler will be one of the
largest and most efficient biomass boilers in the world.
The Nacogdoches Generating Facility will be owned and operated by
Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company in the USA. The plant
will supply Austin Energy, Inc. (the city-owned utility) of Austin,
Texas with a firm source of renewable electric power under the terms of
a 20-year power purchase agreement.
